28 Apr New emergency backup generator

A new emergency generator will be installed at Timboon and District Healthcare Service to ensure the safety of patients and staff is not impacted during power outages.

Chief executive officer Gerry Sheehan said the organisation had successfully applied for a State Government grant to undertake the $133,000 project.

“We’re delighted that our multipurpose service has secured the government funding to install this generator, which has the capacity to power our entire operation with no disruptions to services,” he said.

“The project will replace an aging, inefficient and underpowered generator. Despite being well maintained it was old and didn’t have the capacity to provide backup power to the whole organisation.

“Currently, non-essential services have to be temporarily shut down when the generator is required. The installation of this new generator will ensure all our operations will have backup power during electricity outages.”

Mr Sheehan said the organisation had worked closely with a number of businesses in the area to put the application together.

“The project is expected to commence in June and be completed by July this year,” he said.

Mr Sheehan said the generator would be more fuel efficient than the existing one, produce less noise and even had the capacity to power any potential service extensions.

“This is an important achievement for us. The safety and protection of our patients, staff and visitors is paramount and the new generator will limit disruptions to our services during power outages,” he said.

The project was made possible by the Victorian Government’s Regional Health Infrastructure Fund.
