24-hour Urgent Care Centre

Timboon and District Healthcare Service provides a 24-hour Urgent Care Centre for urgent medical care through a partnership with the Timboon Medical Clinic.

Timboon Medical Clinic provides an on-call roster system for after-hours urgent care.  There may be occasions when there is not a doctor available.

If medical attention is required come directly to the front entrance and speak with a member of the nursing team.

The urgent care service commences with a comprehensive assessment completed by a nurse referred to as triage – the process of determining the priority of patients’ treatment based on the severity of the condition.  Following this assessment, if required, the doctor is contacted and will attend as necessary.

This service is available for people requiring pressing, immediate treatment and attention.   It should be noted that other medical conditions that are not pressing should be assessed by a doctor by making an appointment at the nearest medical clinic.  If you are unwell and you believe you require emergency care do not hesitate to call an ambulance – 000.

The Urgent Care Centre is not an emergency department and people using this facility and who are seen by a doctor will incur a cost.  These charges are set by the Timboon Medical Clinic and Ambulance Victoria.

  • Patients seen by the doctor are charged directly by the doctor
  • Patients transferred by ambulance for further medical treatment are responsible for all ambulance fees

TDHS may charge additional fees for non-urgent patients for items such as dressings, bandages and supplies.

Diagnostic Services

Timboon and District Healthcare Service provides a comprehensive diagnostic service to patients. Our experienced, friendly and highly knowledgeable staff will accurately and efficiently interpret your results and instigate the necessary follow-up procedures to help you achieve peace of mind.

Our diagnostic services include:

  • pathology, and
  • radiology.

A Pathology Request from your General Practitioner (GP) or Specialist is necessary.

Specimens are collected and tested by Gribbles Pathology twice daily Monday through Friday, and daily on Saturday. We foster relationships with leading experts and practitioners to offer efficient, high-quality service and an exceptional level of care.

Results from the completed tests will be forwarded to the GP or Specialist from whom you received your Pathology Request and you should contact them approximately 24 hours after the specimen was taken to receive your results.

Our radiologist is onsite for x-ray appointments every Thursday between 8.30am and 3pm.

Respite care service

Looking after aging people with health and mobility issues can be a strain, both on personal wellbeing and family dynamics. Our respite care service allows carers to plan holidays or other leave, while our professional carers provide assistance to the aging individual for a pre-arranged period of time, agreed between Barwon Health Carer Support or Timboon and District Healthcare Service.

Respite care is provided to families and carers with extra demands of caring for someone who has a disability, which may be intellectual, physical or sensory. Respite care is also provided for the terminally ill and for carers of family members with dementia.

Respite can be accessed either ‘in home’ or in an appropriate facility – ‘facility based’. The Assessment Officer will assist you with booking ‘facility based’ respite by referring you to the coordinator at Commonwealth Carer Respite and other independent facilities.

The time allocated for respite varies and is assessed on the basis of client need and resources available. Where TDHS is unable to fulfil your needs, the Assessment Officer is able to refer you to a number of other agencies.

Families needing a short break from their usual routine have found that respite care helps them manage their other commitments:

  • attending personal appointments
  • participating in leisure and recreational activities
  • attending social functions.

Respite care is available weekdays, weekends, overnight and evenings. Advance booking notice is required, however every attempt will be made to provide care in a crisis.

Please note that fees are payable for these services and options for payment can be discussed with the healthcare service or Barwon Health Carer Support.

If you would like more information about our aged care facilities, please contact Timboon and District Healthcare Service on (03) 5558 6000.
