TDHS NAIDOC Week 2024 | Keep The Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud

Each year national NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July, but in consultation with Katina, our Aboriginal Liaison Officer, it was decided to celebrate NAIDOC Week with staff and our community in the week commencing 28 October. Timboon and District Healthcare Service is committed to supporting this important cause by reflecting on the theme, starting conversations, and exploring how each of us can contribute to a shared future and knowledge of all cultures.

NAIDOC Week celebrates and recognises the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.

NAIDOC Week’s theme for 2024, Keep The Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud, celebrates the unyielding spirit of their communities and invites all to stand in solidarity. The fire is a symbol of connection to the land, to each other, and to the rich tapestry of traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. “Blak, Loud and Proud” encapsulates the unapologetic celebration of Indigenous identity and an invitation to all Australians to listen, learn and engage in meaningful dialogue, fostering a society where the wisdom and contributions of Indigenous peoples are fully valued and respected.
