31 Aug Meals on Wheels – More than just a meal
National Meals on Wheels Day is celebrated every year on the last Wednesday in August. It is a wonderful opportunity to highlight the importance of Meals on Wheels volunteers around Australia, including here at Timboon and District Healthcare Service.
Meals on Wheels represent the heart of our community, including lending a helping hand, teamwork and looking out for each other.
The meals are specially prepared at the health service and consider the needs of each individual. Our dedicated team of Meals on Wheels volunteers makes sure the home-cooked, three-course meals, get to the client hot and fresh.
Our volunteers deliver over 500 nutritious meals a month and provide more than food delivery. The visits also ensure a general wellbeing check and a moment to come together and have a quick chat. Many of our clients find the social connection our volunteers provides just as important as the meal itself.
“Marvellous! Eating well; better than I could cook myself.” Gordon Wilson
“Great service!” Margaret Bacon
“Wonderful service!” Alice Hovenden
TDHS would like to thank all of our volunteers. Their time and dedication is always appreciated.
Offering a helping hand through volunteering can create lifelong partnerships, improve mental health and wellbeing, provide a sense of pride, and can lead to new friendships and opportunities.
