05 Mar Flying Doctor Dentist visits TDHS this March & April

The Flying Doctor Dentist is visiting Timboon from 26 March to 11 April 2019, providing screening and treatment locally.

With no local public dental service in Timboon and being largely a farming area, many children may miss a day of school to travel to the nearest public dental clinic for dental care. The Flying Doctor Dental Clinic will provide local access with screening and treatment at Timboon & District Healthcare Service.

The Royal Flying Doctor Service has been delivering care throughout Australia since 1928, and is proudly providing smiles throughout Victoria as part of its dental program.

The Royal Flying Doctor Service Victoria provides its dental service in partnership with Dental Health Services Victoria (DHSV) and Australian Dental Association Victorian Branch (ADAVB).

Called the Flying Doctor Dental Clinic, the service offers check-ups, treatment and oral health advice to rural locations throughout Victoria. These locations are determined in consultation with DHSV and local public dental providers.

In 2017/18, the RFDS provided 21,828 episodes of dental care across Australia.

The Flying Doctor Dental Clinic can provide treatment to:

• All children aged 0-12 years
• All young people 13-17 years
• Adults aged 18 and over, who have a Health Care or Pensioner Concession Card
• All Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
• All refugees and asylum seekers

Almost half of the patients screened by the Flying Doctor Dental Clinic to date have required treatment.

Unfortunately, there are three times fewer dentists in remote and rural Australia, which is why RFDS is working with South West Healthcare and Timboon & District Health Care Service to bring healthy smiles to the Timboon community. Anyone who is eligible for public dental services can get a check-up and treatment in the Flying Doctor Dental Clinic.

Flying Doctor Dental Clinic will be at Timboon & District Healthcare Service, 21 Hospital Rd from Tuesday 26 March to Thursday 11 April.
