09 Sep Farewell to long-term surgeon
After more than a decade, long-serving surgeon Dr Brendan Mooney is preparing to scrub in for the last time before moving into retirement.
Acting chief executive officer Rebecca Van Wollingen said Dr Mooney had been a part of the TDHS team for a long time, providing minor surgical services once a month.
She said he would be greatly missed.
“On behalf of our Board, our staff and the community I’d like to thank Dr Mooney for his years of service and hard work here in Timboon,” she said.
“Dr Mooney and the team have done an exceptional job providing these services consistently for more than 10 years. His last day with us is Wednesday (September 11).
“We wish him all the best in his retirement. He certainly deserves it.”
Ms Van Wollingen said procedural services (scopes/colonoscopies) would continue as usual with no interruption or change to these services.
“In fact, TDHS is planning to significantly upgrade its theatre to make sure these procedures will continue into the future,” she said.
Ms Van Wollingen said Dr Mooney’s departure would see no significant impact for patients. She said there were no patients waiting urgently for surgery.
“In the short term, if anyone requires a minor procedure, our TDHS team will assist in finding the appropriate service within the region, including Colac, Camperdown and Warrnambool,” she said.
“We’re proud of our long association with Dr Mooney and we’re excited for him as he transitions from the theatre to a well-earned retirement.”
