As we continue our weekly COVID-19 updates, this week we explore: detecting and managing COVID-19.
Detecting and Managing COVID-19
The following actions can assist in keeping you and your loved ones safe by detecting and managing COVID-19:
- RAPID ANTIGEN TEST (RAT TEST)
If you have any symptoms of COVID-19 – even if they are mild – you should complete a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT). If you are unable to obtain RAT, TDHS can supply you with one, please call TDHS on 5558 6000. In some circumstances you may require a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) Test. TDHS also offer these, please call to book a test.
- FOLLOW HEALTH DEPARTMENT ADVICE
If you test positive to COVID-19 please visit www.coronavirus.vic.gov.au/im-a-covid-case-contact for the latest information regarding reporting and isolation advice.
- MONITOR YOUR SYMPTOMS
COVID affects everyone differently. Understand the difference between mild, moderate and severe symptoms. If your symptoms change and start to get worse, call you GP for advice. You can also contact:

- Virtual Emergency Department https://www.nh.org.au/virtual-emergency-department/
If you develop symptoms such as severe shortness of breath or chest pain, call triple zero (000) immediately. Tell the call handler and the paramedics on arrival if you have COVID-19.
- ANTIVIRAL MEDICATION
Antivirals are available for COVID-19 positive people at risk of severe disease and meet the eligibility criteria. For more information you can go to https://bswphu.org.au/antivirals
- MONITOR YOUR MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLBEING
It is very important to take care of your mental health while you’re isolating.
