A TDHS community bus would be just TOPs

Community donations of various pre-loved wares to the Timboon Op Shop (TOPs) have helped raise a further $5000 for the local health service’s community bus appeal.

Timboon and District Healthcare Service (TDHS) recently revealed its 2021 Annual Appeal for a community bus had surpassed $100,000.

Chief executive officer Rebecca Van Wollingen said the growing number of donors to the appeal was “something very special” and showed widespread support for the project.

TOPs committee members Barbara Fraser and Louise Blair said the $5000 contribution was part of the organisation’s latest $15,000 in donations to a number of worthy recipients.

“We have an application process and the committee felt that the bus appeal was a great initiative and something that could benefit a lot of community members. I think we might need it ourselves one day…most of our volunteers are in their prime,” Ms Blair quipped.

“TOPs likes to fund projects that help a lot of people and I think our committee members just felt this bus is something we need to help isolated members of the community to get out of their homes to socialise and mix with other people.”

Ms Fraser said TOPs volunteers were constantly amazed by the generosity of locals who continued to donate a contant stream of saleable good to the organisation.

“It’s nice for us to make these donations, but it’s the community that we need to thank because without their goods, we wouldn’t have anything to sell and we wouldn’t be able to give back to the community like we do,” she said.

“The community donations just keep coming…you wonder where it all comes from sometimes – but that’s what raises the money.

“Next month is our 10th anniversary and we’re busy preparing for a plant sale on November 6 to help mark the occasion.”

TOPs is open from 10am to 4pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 2pm on Satursdays. The organisation donates approximately $35,000 every year.
