26 Aug Celebrating National Meals on Wheels Day
On the last Wednesday in August every year National Meals on Wheels Day is celebrated.
It is an opportunity to highlight the significant contribution that is made to communities across Australia by over 700 Meals on Wheels services and some 80,000 volunteers.
Meals on Wheels delivery has been one of the essential services at Timboon and District Healthcare Service (TDHS) from its inception.
The service enables frail older people and younger people with a disability and their carers to stay in the comfort of a familiar home, and enjoy a level of independence and style of living to suit their individual needs, as long as possible.
We also provide meals for eligible clients that are given short funded services following discharge from hospital.
Meals are cooked on a daily bases by our Hotel Services staff, who are dedicated to provide a hot home cooked three course meal using high quality ingredients (including that vital one: a bit of love).
Our dietitian has continuously been involved in providing thorough menu reviews with our kitchen to provide highly nutritious meals catered to our clients’ specific individual dietary requirements (including allergy, diabetes).
Our wonderful team of volunteers make sure it gets delivered to the clients’ door as it’s still hot and adds a bit of social interaction as an extra and very essential ingredient, especially during these challenging times.
Feedback from some of our Meals on Wheels clients:
“Good meals. Love the soup!” June Swayn
“I’m here by myself and find it hard to manage cooking. Love the meals!” Rita Rundle
“Good home cooked meals. Beautiful array of veggies. Don’t have to struggle with shopping; makes it all easier.” Dorothy Stevens
