Midwives are celebrated around the world on May 5th, in recognition of the wonderful people who bring new life into the world and support our women and children. This year the celebration highlights “100 years of progress” and advocates for investment in quality midwifery care around the world. This includes improving sexual, reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health.Timboon and District Healthcare Service (TDHS) would like to acknowledge and thank our wonderful midwives for providing an invaluable service. Our midwives provide pre and post-natal care, supporting local mothers.Midwives have supported women during childbirth since ancient Egyptian times. They are often the first port of call. Midwives offer broad-ranging services from life-saving support to supportive care that focuses on family planning, disease screenings, and more. It is this important work that ensures women, children and families are healthy and happy. We would like to recognise all midwives and thank them for their dedicated work. Every year on the 25th of April, hundreds of thousands of Australians and New Zealanders around the world gather at dawn on Anzac Day. Now, more than ever, we hold peace close to our hearts.ANZAC is an acronym and stands for Australian New Zealand Army Corps, the name given to the body of troops raised by the two countries to aid the British Empire in the Great War. Throughout the war Australian and New Zealand troops, or 'Diggers' and 'Kiwis', would live, fight, and die alongside each other creating a bond between the two nations that still exists today.Originally a commemoration of the landing of Australian and New Zealand forces at Gallipoli in modern-day Turkey in 1915, Anzac Day is a public expression of gratitude and reflection on the service and sacrifice of generations and all those who suffer the consequences of war, which resonates to the present day. ... Relaxing after work comes with many benefits to both your personal and professional life. Some reasons why it is important to relax after work are; - Greater mental health: Finding time to relax after work can help you de-stress and focus on something other than your work-related responsibilities. Taking this time essentially helps you release mental pressure from a long workday. - Improved decision-making: Relaxing after a long day at work can provide you with a renewed mindset for the next workday. When you return to work with a rational mind, it is easier to make important decisions. - Better physical health: Relaxing can help you alleviate stress and reduce negative thoughts, which can ultimately prevent the possibility of health complications. While there are several ways to unwind after work, it’s important to find what works best for you. Once you know what helps you can relax more and schedule time to engage in these activities after work. TDHS wanted to give you an insight on how some of our staff live, work, and play – we’re calling it the TDHS Wellness Club. It might give you an idea on finding your own wellness. We start our video series with Tracey Heeps, our Allied Health Assistant, who talks about her love for the ocean and how it helps her unwind and refocus. ... Parkinson’s disease is a progressive, degenerative neurological condition that affects a person’s ability to control their body movements. In Australia, it affects 100,000 people with 38 people being diagnosed every day. Parkinson’s results from the loss of cells in various parts of the brain, including a region called the substantia nigra. When dopamine production is depleted, the motor system nerves are unable to control movement and coordination. The dopamine producing cells are lost over a period of years and the motor type symptoms such as tremor, rigidity etc. will start to appear. Please read more on our website... ... See MoreSee Less

Let's give Timboon and district a boost! As we are enjoying more freedom and social interactions with our loved ones, we are also seeing more COVID-19 cases in our community. While two doses of COVID-19 vaccine provide very good protection, especially against severe disease, a booster dose will make sure the protection from the first 2 doses is even stronger and longer lasting, and should help prevent spread of the virus, especially going into winter as the cold weather can make it easier for viruses to infect our bodies.A booster dose increases your protection against:* infection with the virus that causes COVID-19* severe disease* dying from COVID-19.You can book a booster dose if it has been 3 months or longer since your second dose of COVID-19 vaccine. If you have tested positive for COVID-19, you can have your next dose of the vaccine once you have fully recovered, or you can choose to defer the dose for up to 4 months after your COVID-19 infection. Booster doses are free for everyone and you can book an appointment for a booster vaccination by calling the Timboon Clinic on 5558 6088.Let's give Timboon and District a boost and continue to protect you, your loved ones and your community against COVID-19. ...
