We want to keep you updated on the industrial action regarding the nurses' pay agreement. Starting today, some of our nursing staff will begin protective action by wearing bright red t-shirts instead of their usual TDHS uniform. Rest assured, consumer care will remain unaffected. “ We take protected industrial action as a last resort. Consumer health, safety, or welfare will not be at risk. For at least the last 27 years Timboon Cruisers have pushed the peddles in the Murray to Moyne Cycling Relay during April to raise important funds for Timboon and District Healthcare Service (TDHS) and this year was no different.Team Members Luke, John R, Reinder, Mick, John J, Jarrod, Finn, Matt and Todd braved the elements and slugged through a wet start. This year “Joy”, our TDHS bus which was purchased with the amazing effort of our community, was able to be part of the support crew.This year funds raised will go towards a wheelchair scale, providing efficiency and safety as well as allowing the consumer to remain in their own wheelchair where they feel comfortable, assisting TDHS in continuing delivering safe consumer centred care. For many of us, the covid-19 pandemic is fading into memory, but for millions of people, that isn’t possible as they are still unwell. An illness that is often brief and mild is, for some, the start of a rollercoaster of symptoms that can last years. By 2023, it was estimated that around 65 million people worldwide may have long covid and suffer from the persistent, crippling symptoms of this still fairly unknown and unseen condition.Timboon resident Tahlia Berry is one of them and has very bravely decided to share her journey with this debilitating condition to spread awareness and recognition.The World Health Organisation (WHO) defines long Covid, or also called post -COVID-19 condition, as the continuation or development of new symptoms 3 months after the initial SARS-CoV-2 infection, with these symptoms lasting for at least 2 months with no other explanation.Tahlia still remembers the exact date she contracted COVID-19, 13th June 2022, as she changed from a healthy and fit 17-year-old to being unable to move. Her initial COVID-19 symptoms were quite mild as she only felt a bit lethargic, had a chesty cold and some brain fog.“I didn’t feel too bad, so I kept on doing things, including exercising.” Tahlia said. “I’ve always been very fit and love exercising, so continued doing YouTube workouts on the treadmill that I started doing during lockdown in 2020.”Unbeknown to Tahlia this was the beginning of an illness from which she is yet to recover completely as following her COVID-19 infection, she went on to develop longer-term effects that can now be recognised as post-COVID-19 condition or long COVID.Please go to our website to read more. ... Endometriosis is a common inflammatory condition in which cells similar to the endometrium (lining of the uterus) grow in other locations in the body. Endometriosis is commonly found in and around the pelvis and reproductive organs. Still, it can also be seen in other parts of the body, including the bowel, bladder, and as far away as the lungs and the brain.Nearly 1 million Australian girls, women, and those assigned female at birth live with endometriosis at some point in their life, with the disease often starting in teenagers. Around half of those living with endometriosis are challenged by fertility, but 70% will go on to have children.TDHS Director of Clinical Services, Larissa Barclay, has lived with endometriosis from her early 20s, which was undiagnosed for a long time. Please be advised that the Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Severe Heatwave Warning effective as of today, Friday 8th March 2024. This warning will be in place up until Monday 11th March.Extreme heat and heatwaves are periods of unusually high maximum and minimum temperatures that could negatively affect human health. Please be aware that the forecast heatwave conditions may cause health impacts in the community and while older people, people with pre-existing medical conditions, pregnant women, young children, and babies are most at risk, it can affect anyone, so every individual and community should prepare for the heat.How to survive the heat: • Drink plenty of water. Always take a bottle with you. • Hot cars kill. Never leave kids, adults, or pets in cars. The temperature inside a parked car can double within minutes. • Keep cool. Seek out air-conditioned buildings, draw your blinds, use a fan, take cool showers, and dress in light and loose clothing made from natural fabrics. • Plan. Mental health issues in the farming community are at an all-time high. This has prompted the Wellbeing team from the Rural Financial Counselling Service Victoria West (RFCS VicWest) to develop Talk the Talk, a workshop specifically designed for rural suppliers and service providers to make it easier to talk to farmers if you’re worried about their mental health.This tailored session teaches participants about awareness, observation skills and strategies. It provides practical techniques that are effective and easy to use.RFCS VicWest Wellbeing counsellors, Jo Beard and Ann-Marie Byrne, understand the isolated nature of the industry and how best to speak to farmers. Things like choosing the right environment and knowing how to start a conversation are key factors.
