Supporting a healthy and well community
Supporting a healthy and well community
Good health starts in the places where we live, learn, work and connect. We work alongside our community and partner organisations to support prevention, education and initiatives that respond to local health and wellbeing priorities.
Our work is informed by local health information, community feedback and Victorian health priorities. We develop annual plan of activities activities are reviewed each year, taking into account community needs, available resources and opportunities to work with others.
The TDHS Strategic Health Promotion Plan 2025–2029 [YA1] identifies five focus areas. Our program of activities is reviewed each year to reflect local needs, Victorian health priorities and available resources.
Nutritious food supports good health throughout life.
Our current plan includes supporting healthy food environments in schools, early childhood services, TDHS and the wider community. Activities may include Vic Kids Eat Well, Smiles 4 Miles, the Achievement Program, food education and practical community initiatives.
Regular movement supports physical health, mental wellbeing and social connection.
Our work includes promoting active play, walking and community activity, supporting healthy school environments and encouraging inclusive opportunities for people of different ages and abilities to participate and connect.
Smoking remains a leading cause of preventable illness. Vaping is also an increasing concern, particularly among children and young people.
Our current plan includes prevention education, sharing reliable information and working with schools and community partners to reduce smoking and vaping harm. We also promote recognised support services for people who want to quit.

Mental wellbeing is closely connected to physical health and quality of life.
We consider mental wellbeing across all our health promotion work. Activities may include community health and wellbeing events, awareness initiatives and opportunities that strengthen resilience, reduce stigma and support social connection.
The health of our community is closely connected to the health of our environment.
We consider climate and sustainability when planning health promotion activities. This includes looking for opportunities to promote active transport, sustainable food choices, connection with nature, waste reduction and community resilience.
Our activities change over time in response to local needs and emerging priorities. Visit our News and Events page or follow TDHS on social media for information about current programs, events and community activities.
Partnerships are an important part of our health promotion work.
