TDHS Board applications extended

Timboon and District Healthcare Service (TDHS) is looking for applications from local people who have a range of skills, qualifications and expertise that are in line with the Government’s requirements to sit on its Board.

Applications close at 5pm on Monday, December 3 for the Government-appointed TDHS Board of Directors. The successful applicants will commence their term on July 1, 2019.

Chair Maryanne Puli Vogels urged anyone with experience and relevant qualifications to put their hand up now to help shape TDHS’s sustainable future.

“We all want a sustainable healthcare service for our community and the appointment of a board that includes local expertise and passion is really important,” she said.

“Our organisation needs skilled, qualified and experienced people from our community to apply and time is running out.

“The current board has a great mix of skilled people from near and far. It will always be a ministerial appointment, but ultimately the first step to a possible appointment is applying.”

Ms Puli Vogels said being on the board was an extremely satisfying opportunity to contribute to the community.

“It’s an opportunity to contribute and provide high level advice on the delivery of public health care to our local community,” she said.

“Successful applicants now get paid to sit on the board. It’s remuneration for your time to attend meetings and play an active role in the decision-making process.

“Governance of public health services is changing. Where possible there’s a commitment to the inclusion of locals, which is great. At the same time, if particular skill sets don’t come forward locally, the Government adds that expertise from outside the immediate area.”

The Department of Health and Human Services is committed to ensuring boards broadly reflect the diversity of Victorian communities. TDHS encourages applications from men, women, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people of all ages, people with disabilities, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, gender diverse and intersex people.

“If you don’t have the available time or qualifications for a Board position, but would still like to contribute to TDHS, you can apply for a valued volunteer position on one of our important subcommittees as a consumer representative or become a valued Community Driver or Meals on Wheels volunteer. Every contribution is welcome,” Ms Puli Vogels concluded.
